Ford Recalls More Than 285K Pickups, SUVs, Cars For Various Fixes

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Ford Motor Co. has issued five recalls involving more than 285,000 vehicles.

"The problems range from driver seat tracks to tires that may have been damaged during assembly," said WWJ Auto Beat Reporter Jeff Gilbert.

"The only injury is in a recall of police vehicles that could have suspension problems. The largest recall involving Expeditions, Navigators, F-150s and Mustangs that could have transmission sensor issues."

The automaker said Wednesday the recalls include nearly 202,000 pickup trucks, SUVs and cars sold in North America because the automatic transmissions can suddenly downshift to first gear.

The recall covers the 2011 and 2012 F-150 and the 2012 Expedition, Mustang and Lincoln Navigator. Ford says a speed sensor can force vehicles into a downshift. The company says the problem has caused three crashes but no injuries have been reported.

Dealers will inspect the sensors. If they find no trouble codes, they'll update software. If trouble codes are present they'll replace parts.

The company also is recalling over 81,000 Explorer SUVs and Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicles to fix a rear suspension problem that can cause loss of steering control. That recall covers SUVs from 2014 and 2015. Suspension links could fracture due to poor welds.

Dealers will replace the links at no cost to customers.

Ford is also issuing a safety recall for approximately 2,600 2016 Ford F-Series Super Duty vehicles to inspect and replace tires as needed. In certain vehicles, tires could have been damaged from a conveyor.

Lastly, Ford issued a safety compliance recall for certain 2016 Ford Fusion vehicles to replace driver seat track assembly. In certain vehicles, the seat mounting bracket attachment to the seat track rail may have been improperly welded, resulting in reduced seat track strength. Only about 40 vehicles sold in the U.S. are believed to be affected.

Gilbert said owners of all vehicles included in these recalls will recall notices in the mail.
