Former GM Plant In Pontiac Finds A Niche As M-1 Concourse, A Development Of Condo Garages

PONTIAC (WWJ) The owners of one of the hottest new developments in Pontiac are just about ready to throw out the welcome mat, push open the doors and say "welcome to my garage."

The M-1 Concourse isn't a rail project or an airport terminal. It's an 87 acre community for car lovers on the north end of Woodward Avenue in Pontiac. You're buying a condo -- for your car -- and just enough room to throw a party or have a sleepover. It also comes with access to a race track to burn rubber.

"Imagine a place where you can enjoy your passion for all things automotive and motorsports. You can have your own private garage surrounded by other collectors, repair and restoration shops, restaurants and even a test track. It's located right on Woodward Avenue, America's first highway (M1) and ground zero each year of the world's biggest car celebration, the Woodward Dream Cruise," says the website description.

And it's already found its audience.

The first 80 owners will move in in June. The site is an old GM factory at Woodward and South street. M-1 Concourse will soon start hosting car-themed events, including 'road kill nights,' concerts and car shows.

There will be racing on the 1.5 mile test track with a straightaway and hairpin turns, which owners can also use to push their beauties through their paces.

Largely sold out, the garage condo units range from $125,000 to $500,000 and 600 to 2,200 square feet.

"I didn't think we'd have this much success out of the gate, so I'm very excited about it and all of our owners are incredible and very excited to move in," said M-1 Concourse founder and CEO Brad Oleshansky.

It's not a glorified storage space. It's a community built on a passion for cars, developers say.

"It's supercharged car nirvana," a video ad says of the project.
