2-Year-Old Dearborn Girl In Critical Condition, Pulled From Neighbor's Pool

DEARBORN (WWJ) - A 2-year-old Dearborn girl is hospitalized in critical condition after police say she was pulled from a neighbor's swimming pool.

It happened just before 10:30 a.m. pm Friday, in the 2600 block of Boldt in Dearborn.

Police say a preliminary investigation shows the victim and her 3-year brother went outside while their parents were sleeping, both managing to climb a chain link fence into a neighbor's yard.

That's when the little girl, police said, climbed the pool ladder and got into the water.

The homeowner looked out her window, saw the child in her pool and immediately ran outside, according to police. She was able to pull child from the water and began administering CPR without success.

Police arrived to find the girl unresponsive. She was taken to an area hospital; her brother was unhurt.

"This is a tragic situation for all the families involved," said Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad in a media release. "The Dearborn Police Department asks that you respect the family's privacy."

Haddad said an investigation is ongoing.

The girl's name was not immediately released.
