Students Injured When Minivan Crashes Into School Bus In Northwest Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Multiple people have been injured in an accident involving a school bus and what witnesses described as a speeding minivan.

The accident happened Tuesday morning at Keeler and Braille streets, just north of Fenkell Avenue between Evergreen and Lahser roads.

A school bus from Murphy Performance Academy was headed to the charter school, on Fenkell and Telegraph Road, with nearly two dozen students on board when it was struck by a minivan.

Several people were injured and treated at the scene. Two students were taken to the hospital with what were described as minor injuries.

Ten-year-old Darren Banks, who was on the bus, was shaken up but uninjured.

"It was a car over there, and the bus was going and it hit the bus and that's when she called the police," Banks told WWJ's Charlie Langton.

Police, fire and EMS crews remain on the scene.
