Driver Arrested After Running Over Baseball Bat-Wielding Woman In Apparent Road Rage Incident

PONTIAC (WWJ) - An incident of apparent road rage ended with one driver under arrest and another, who was armed with a baseball bat, in critical condition.

The incident happened Thursday afternoon in a shopping center  along Telegraph Road near Elizabeth Lake Road in Pontiac.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Department, the women, ages 52 and 44, pulled into the center following an apparent in-car argument on Telegraph Road. The older woman allegedly armed herself with a baseball bat, got out of her vehicle and threatened the other woman, who was still in her vehicle. At that point, the younger woman hit the gas and struck the older woman, then fled the scene.

The 52-year-old woman was transported to a local hospital and was last reported in critical condition.

Police caught up with the 44-year-old woman a short time later and took her into custody. She is currently lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending charges.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone who might have witnesses the altercation is asked to contact police at 248-409-7100.
