Felon Directed 7 Women To Buy More Than 30 Guns

DETROIT (CBS DETROIT/AP) — Federal investigators say seven women purchased more than 30 handguns at Detroit-area stores at the direction of a convicted felon who couldn't possess firearms.

Charges were filed Wednesday against the women and Ruemondo Murray. The women are accused of conspiracy and making false statements while buying guns last fall, typically at Dunham's stores. Investigators say Murray's goal was to resell the weapons on the streets.

Agent Mark Jackson said in a court filing that the Smith & Wesson guns are among the most common handguns discovered in Detroit crimes. Some guns turned up in an Ontario, Canada, storage unit in March.

The 30-year-old Murray was returned to state prison on a parole violation after a gun and ammunition were found at his Detroit home in January.
