Broadcast Maintenance Technician

CBS 62 (WWJ-TV) and CW50 (WKBD-TV), the CBS News and Stations owned & operated in the #15 television market in Detroit, is seeking a Broadcast Maintenance Technician with a strong passion for television broadcasting. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to manage, document and execute projects and other tasks in a demanding live-streaming and broadcast environment. The person will be directly responsible for installation, operation and maintenance of studio and field equipment. A strong background in and understanding of television engineering systems is required, including analog and digital audio and video, IT systems and IT-based broadcast television systems.

Job responsibilities:

  • Exhibit a good working knowledge of television and IT systems maintenance, as well as FCC rules, regulations and licensing.
  • Install, maintain, upgrade, and configure standard broadcast television equipment
  • Read schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Cultivate vendor and supplier sales and support contacts. Be familiar with purchasing procedures.

BROADCAST IT SUPPORT SPECIALIST

The Broadcast IT Support Specialist is responsible for providing first and second level support for both wired and wireless devices. IT tasks include: user account creation, refreshing user devices, setting up user profiles, installing applications, user training, software updates, patch deployment, and asset tracking.

Admin tasks include; network printer support, daily server backups, document and monitor issues, maintain corporate compliance and documentation; configure, deploy, and support IT connectivity to broadcast equipment throughout the studio and transmitter sites.
Install a cabling system through pathways, spaces, raised flooring, horizontal cabling. Terminating, testing, and making inter-connections; assist the broadcast operations team with projects and emergencies.

CBS 62 (WWJ-TV) AND CW50 (WKBD-TV), the CBS News and Stations owned & operation in the #15 Television Market Detroit, has an immediate opening for Director, Broadcast Operations & Engineering. This is a challenging, multi-dimensional position with many responsibilities – Technical, Financial, Operational, Contractual, and HR related. The position reports to the Duopoly Vice President/General Manager with a dotted line to the Division Senior Vice President of Engineering.
Job Description

  • Overall responsibility for all-day-to-day broadcast activities, including compliance with all regulatory and governmental agencies (FCC, FAA, OSHA, etc.), station asset management, information technology, ENG/DSNG operations, transmission facilities, remote facilities and building operations.
  • Responsible for creating and complying with all B.O.&E. Expense budgets and administering station’s Capital Budget.
  • Oversees staff training, employee safety, and quality control for all broadcast productions.
  • This position has the ultimate responsibility for the TV technical plant/transmitter and must maintain a proactive role in maintenance to prevent on-air failures of any kind 24/7/365.
  • Work in concert with the News Director and Director of Creative Services to identify new technologies for efficient and cutting-edge operations.
  • Oversees the maintenance and repairs of the office, studio, transmitter, and telephone systems.

Director of Financial Planning & Operations

CBS 62 (WWJ-TV) AND CW50 (WKBD-TV), THE CBS NEWS AND STATIONS OWNED & OPERATED IN THE #15 TELEVISION MARKET DETROIT, has an immediate opening for Director of Planning & Operations. Works closely with Stations’ Vice President/General Manager, local Department Heads, and Corporate Finance to help us build strategic information for financial resources that are effective and makes sense to the needs of the business.

Job Description

  • Partner with the Station GM to ensure the stations’ financial resources are being used in the most effective and efficient manner
  • Develop monthly forecasts and annual budgets, financial analysis, and financial reporting of actual performance versus forecasts by department
  • Coordinate annual budget process and presentation including out-of-market meetings with division executives
  • Monitor and oversee expense control of the stations and be proactive with cost reduction leadership
  • Review and approve all station Term Sheets and PO’s
  • Provide station performance analysis and ad hoc reporting requests to division Financial Planning and to TV Station Management
  • Partner with local News, Engineering and Sales department heads to proactively manage the day-to-day operations and challenges in running local stations

This is a full-time position in the WWJ-TV News department with duties including, but not limited to, serving as Meteorologist, Weather Reporter, Video Editor, Program Announcer, Program Producer and Program Host. This individual will make appearances as a representative of the stations at locations or events as assigned.

DESCRIPTION:

  • Prepare and deliver weather reports and forecasts for on-air and on digital platforms at regularly scheduled times, either live or recorded. Deliver severe weather updates as needed.
  • Analyze weather data and synthesize the information into clear, easy-to-understand graphics.
  • Present weather casts from the studio or on-location.
  • Produce special weather segments for implementation in newscasts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of five years of television broadcast experience with proven operating knowledge of weather forecasting and presentation software is required.
  • A degree in Meteorology or related science is preferred.
  • The qualified candidate will possess strong, clear and explanatory on-air presentation skills. We are looking for someone with a proven history of reporting on severe weather and forecasting experience.
