The Broadcast IT Support Specialist is responsible for providing first and second level support for both wired and wireless devices. IT tasks include: user account creation, refreshing user devices, setting up user profiles, installing applications, user training, software updates, patch deployment, and asset tracking.

Director Broadcast Operation & Engineering

CBS 62 (WWJ-TV) AND CW50 (WKBD-TV), the CBS News and Stations owned & operation in the #15 Television Market Detroit, has an immediate opening for Director, Broadcast Operations & Engineering. This is a challenging, multi-dimensional position with many responsibilities – Technical, Financial, Operational, Contractual, and HR related. The position reports to the Duopoly Vice President/General Manager with a dotted line to the Division Senior Vice President of Engineering.

Job Description

  • Overall responsibility for all-day-to-day broadcast activities, including compliance with all regulatory and governmental agencies (FCC, FAA, OSHA, etc.), station asset management, information technology, ENG/DSNG operations, transmission facilities, remote facilities and building operations.
  • Responsible for creating and complying with all B.O.&E. Expense budgets and administering station’s Capital Budget.
  • Oversees staff training, employee safety, and quality control for all broadcast productions.
  • This position has the ultimate responsibility for the TV technical plant/transmitter and must maintain a proactive role in maintenance to prevent on-air failures of any kind 24/7/365.
  • Work in concert with the News Director and Director of Creative Services to identify new technologies for efficient and cutting-edge operations.
  • Oversees the maintenance and repairs of the office, studio, transmitter, and telephone systems.
  • Provide facilities (sometimes on short notice) to support any, and all in-house production efforts.
  • Manage local Engineering, IT, and Building Maintenance staffs.

Responsibilities:

The EP, Impacting Communities at our stations will play a pivotal role in leading our next-generation storytelling efforts – focusing on areas where we can affect change in the communities we serve – every single day – as well as ensuring balance and authenticity in our local products across platforms. You will be entrusted with guiding a team of reporters tasked with building relationships and sourcing original stories at the neighborhood-level. You must demonstrate the ability to handle breaking news with ease, have the stamina and energy to anchor for several hours and help produce original reports when time allows. In addition to on-air duties, this position will represent CBS News Detroit at a variety of public and station events.

This is a full-time position in the WWJ-TV News department with duties including, but not limited to, serving as Meteorologist, Weather Reporter, Video Editor, Program Announcer, Program Producer and Program Host. This individual will make appearances as a representative of the stations at locations or events as assigned.

DESCRIPTION:

  • Prepare and deliver weather reports and forecasts for on-air and on digital platforms at regularly scheduled times, either live or recorded. Deliver severe weather updates as needed.
  • Analyze weather data and synthesize the information into clear, easy-to-understand graphics.
  • Present weather casts from the studio or on-location.
  • Produce special weather segments for implementation in newscasts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of five years of television broadcast experience with proven operating knowledge of weather forecasting and presentation software is required.
  • A degree in Meteorology or related science is preferred.
    The qualified candidate will possess strong, clear and explanatory on-air presentation skills. We are looking for someone with a proven history of reporting on severe weather and forecasting experience.

PROMOTION COORDINATOR

CBS 62 (WWJ-TV) AND CW50 (WKBD-TV), THE CBS NEWS AND STATIONS OWNED & OPERATED IN THE #15 TELEVISION MARKET DETROIT, has an immediate opening for Promotion Coordinator. Works closely with the Director of Creative Services in the day-to-day administrative functions of the department. Will work with Writer/Producers for promotion and commercial production to enhance skills in production and editing techniques.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:

  • Schedule all on-air promotion to heighten viewer awareness of upcoming programming, with input from Director of Creative Services.
  • Work closely with producers to assure timely completion of scheduled promotions, and assist in production, if necessary, including but not limited to tagging syndicated and network spots on a daily basis, and ingesting them into the server for air.
  • Download sales spots from client/agency’s FTP site or via email, convert spot(s) as needed and send to be ingested into playout system after ensuring spot(s) go through approval process.
  • Inputs and maintains an inventory of all on-air promotional announcements, purging outdated promos from the server.
  • Schedules the on-air PSAs in Community Affairs inventory, working closely with the Community Affairs Manager to satisfy station requirements, objectives and initiatives.
  • Coordinates recording of satellite feeds involving topical or daily specific promotion materials from syndicators and networks.
  • Coordinates special projects as assigned, including, but not limited to, radio cross-promotions, Internet promotion, contesting.
  • Assists with all aspects of station program-related, non-sponsored contesting including prize allocation/fulfillment, the completion and acceptance of all legal documents and contracts.
  • Working with Director of Creative Services, scout locations and subjects for station promotional spots.
  • Assist in organizing and executing station promotional and community events.
  • Operate studio camera for weekly community affairs show tapings.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

EDUCATION, SKILLS, and EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
