Taqueria Lupitas

3443 Bagley St
Detroit, MI 48216
(313) 843-1105

The sign out front reads, "The House of the original Mexican taco" -- and they deliver. The prices are awesome. They serve pinto beans on the side instead of refried, which is a refreshing change. Be warned that the menu may contain some items that gringos are not used to seeing like tripe and tongue.  No alcohol, so if you're craving a margarita, go to Xochimilco. Cash only

Xochimilco Restaurant

3409 Bagley St
Detroit, MI 48216

The Margaritas are very reasonably priced at Xochimilco (just say "so-shi's"). The food is also good although some would say it's "Americanized", meaning you'll find lots of tacos, nachos, cheese and sour cream. Who says that's such a bad thing though. Yum!

Mexican Village Restaurant

2600 Bagley Street
Detroit, MI 48216-1722

Mexican Village is Detroit's oldest Mexican restaurant located in Mexicantown. Their specialties include Caldo Can-can, burritos, steaks, and homemade desserts. They can also help you plan a perfect fiesta with their banquet rooms, or at your home with a variety of party trays.

Mexican Fiesta offers wonderful Mexican fare at affordable prices and it a great spot to take the family. Portions are huge, like the botana, and their burritos, enchiladas and soft tacos are piled high with cheese. Try the cole slaw on the side. It's delicious and adds a refreshing tang to the bold Mexican flavors.

Monterrey Cantina

312 South Main Street
Royal Oak, MI 48067

This restaurant has long been a staple of the popular downtown restaurant scene in Royal Oak. Monterrey Cantina generates a giant menu, and even bigger margaritas, in a smartly decorated dining room. Monterrey Cantina offers huge chimichangas and hot fajitas, along with a nice list of drinks and one of the most popular outdoor dining patios.

Old Mexico Restaurant

28407 5 Mile Road
Livonia, MI 48154-3819

This restaurant is tiny in size, but the potions are definitely not tiny. Long a Livonia favorite, Old Mexican Restaurant features authentic Mexican food at modest prices. The tacos are always a favorite and the small botana is the size of large ones elsewhere. Because of its size, you may have to wait for a table, but it will be worth it.
