Best Places For Waxing In Metro Detroit

Whether you're looking to get your eyebrows done or something more personal, check this list for the best waxing places in the metro Detroit area.
Douglas J Aveda Institute
409 S. Center St.
Royal Oak, MI 48067
(248) 336-5500
www.douglasj.edu

The Aveda Institute can be found in downtown Royal Oak, and also has another location in Ann Arbor (as well as a few on the west side of the state). Because your spa treatments are done by Douglas J students, they're often cheaper than they would be at a salon, and the students' teachers always double-check to make sure you're happy with their work. Prices range from $11 (one facial area) to $60+ for a Brazilian, and parking can be found on the street (metered) or in structures nearby.

Club Soleil Tanning
32872 Woodward Ave.
Royal Oak, MI 48073
(248) 549-1786
www.clubsoleil.biz

You might be surprised to learn that you can get waxing done at a tanning salon, but you can, and its prices are among the best in the area. When you call to make an appointment, ask for Liz. Her room is in the basement of Club Soleil, and she does waxing, nails and other services. Waxing is usually $12 and an appointment must be made ahead of time. Club Soleil is located on Woodward near 14 Mile.

Visions Spa Salon
26800 Beck Road
Novi, MI 48374
(248) 344-9944
www.visionsspasalon.com

Visions Spa was created in 1988 and is known for its great service and relaxing atmosphere. Waxing prices range from $15 (lip) to $85 (full back), and a Brazilian wax is $60. The salon offers packages for corporate spa days, weddings and even English tea parties; it also offers men's and women's locker rooms, showers, a relaxation area, a dining area and a sauna. Visions has snacks and drinks on hand as well, and if you give the spa 48-hours notice, for a fee you can enjoy lunch or dinner.

Curl Up & Dye is unique in that it is Michigan's only beauty/barber shop that offers non-toxic services and care products. It bills itself as specializing in "the hair you want to keep," but it also offers facial hair waxing, as well as brow shaping ($15). It was voted Metro Times' 2014 Best of Detroit Readers Choice for barber/beauty shop, and has been for the past six years. WSU One Card and MOCAD members can also get 10 percent off their most expensive service that they receive. Walk-ins are usually not available, so be sure to make an appointment before going.

The WoodHouse Day Spa
1447 Woodward Ave.
Detroit, MI 48226
(313) 965-6270
www.detroit.woodhousespas.com

If you're in the mood to be pampered, check out the WoodHouse Day Spa, located downtown near Grand Circus. When you arrive, you will be greeted by one of the spa concierges, and be able to change into a robe and "sensei sandals." You are also welcome to relax with a cup of tea or glass of wine. The spa has 70+ treatments to choose from, and is known for its "quick, painless as possible waxing experience." For waxes that are more painful, WoodHouse offers a topical anesthetic that should be applied 45 minutes prior to the appointment. Prices range from $15 (lip) to $70 (full legs); a Brazilian is $65 and a bikini wax is $40.
