Kids are often interested in the rock formations and canyons of the American West, but visiting them can put a dent in the family budget.

To enable even those with a stay-cation this year to explore majestic sites, the National Parks Service has put together a website on Bryce Canyon, Utah, which asks kids to solve mysteries based on the earth science behind this canyon.

Structured as a series of mystery stories, Brycecanyoneft.org leads students to discover how the canyon was formed, and what forces continue to shape it.
