Police Need Help To Catch Church Burglar

Royal Oak police are asking for the public's help in tracking down a church burglar. The first break-in was several weeks ago, when a man hit the First Methodist Church on W. 7th street, but took off without taking anything after being discovered. Then police say last weekend, the same man hit the St. Dennis Catholic Church, leaving a trail of blood to led to a nearby donut shop.

Royal Oak Police Lt. Gordon Young tells WWJ Newsradio 950 that the burglar is likely a local.

"He's familiar with the churches themselves. And, he is an opportunist -- in that he either has previous knowledge of where money is kept, or is in hopes of finding money," Young said.

Lt. Young asks anyone with information to call Royal Oak Police at (248)-246-3515.
