Child Found Wandering Streets In Melvindale

Parents in Melvindale are relieved their two-year old child is safe after he was found wandering in the street, not far from their house this morning.

WWJ's Ron Dewey says police there chalk it up as just one of those things that could happen to any household.

Melvindale Police Sergeant Joe Miller told WWJ Newsradio 950 that the child's parents had to go to work early this morning, and their babysitter was running late due to car trouble, but was on the way, so the parents put their 12-year-old daughter in charge of the other three kids until the babysitter arrived.

In the meantime, Miller says, a passerby who found the two-year-old wandering around brought the child to the station. Miller says everything at the house checked out, the kids are okay, and as he put it, it was just a two-year-old being a two-year-old. Protective Services will do a follow-up, but officials do not expect to file any charges.
