Woman Found Dead In Oakland County Lake
A Ferndale woman is dead and the Oakland County Sheriff's Department is investigating after her body was found floating in Round Lake.
Information from the Sheriff's Department says 47-year old Sally Maloney was found floating in the Independence Township lake Wednesday morning by a woman who was house sitting for Maloney's boyfriend.
A preliminary investigation indicates Maloney and the house sitter were drinking on the dock at a home on Smokey Hollow Lane. The house sitter said she went inside around 11:30 p.m., but Maloney said she was going to stay out and look at the stars.
Around 9:45 Wednesday morning, the house sitter said she got up and could not find Maloney, but when she looked outside she saw a body floating in the lake about 100 feet from shore. The sitter and two neighbors were able to retrieve Maloney's body and bring her to shore.
Investigators say when Maloney was pulled from the water she was naked and her bathing suit was found on shore.
Maloney's boyfriend was out of town on business at the time of the incident. He contacted her parents who went to the scene.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine a cause of death.
