Highland Park Apartment Building Burns

Firefighters from Highland Park and Detroit worked for hours to put out a fire at a vacant apartment building.

The fire was reported around 7 p.m. Friday at the Highland Towers apartment building on Woodward near McLean.

One witness told WWJ the fire started in the back of the building and spread to the entire building.

The building, which once housed Highland Park Community College, has been empty since residents were forced to move out because the management company had financial issues.

The Highland Park Fire Department wasn't commenting on a cause. No injuries had been reported.
