The state Department of Natural Resources and Environment is accepting proposals for projects to restore and protect Michigan wetlands, lakes and streams.

The department recently announced that about $4 million in state and federal funding is available for watershed-based projects. State and local units of government, nonprofit organizations and universities may apply.

Funding opportunities include about $1 million in Nonpoint Source Pollution Control Grants related to the Clean Michigan Initiative. And about $3 million in Federal Clean Water Act money is expected to be available.

Notices of intent are due Sept. 16. Full applications are due Oct. 25. Details are on the DNRE’s website.
