Most kids, even those interested in history, are unaware of the heights of Native American civilization reached in the Midwest, particularly in Illinois and Ohio.

While many textbooks cover Native Americans in terms of their removal or decline, few classes highlight the cities that were built by Native Americans within a few hours drive of Michigan.

The book “Journey to Cahokia: A Boy’s Visit to the Great Mound City,” gives kids the chance to journey back through time, and see what it would be like to travel to one of these great cities, and to experience life in the time of the mound-builders.
