It's Time Again For The Fall Tech Tour

It's the fall, and I'm headed back to school.

Yep. It's time again for the Great Lakes Innovation and Technology Report's annual Fall Tech Tour of Michigan's research universities.

I'll be spending the next eight days visiting seven campuses, including one that's farther from Detroit than Washington, D.C. I'm looking for research that will be turned into new, high-tech, high-paying Michigan jobs -- soon.

Schools on the agenda are Michigan Technological University in Houghton; Saginaw Valley State University in University Center; Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant; Ferris State University in Big Rapids; Grand Valley State University's campuses in Grand Rapids and Allendale; Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo; and Michigan State University in East Lansing.

Also, once again, the fine folks at LaFontaine Automotive Group in Highland Township are providing me with the official Tech Tour Mobile -- a stunning Cadillac Escalade Hybrid. It's literally the lap of luxury, a wonderful vehicle, a true land yacht that, thanks to low-speed electrification and high-speed cylinder de-activation, gets remarkable fuel economy for a vehicle in its class. It's also got just about every whiz-bang tech doodad you can think of, including blind spot warning technology.
