Probation Officer Charged With Sexual Assault

It was his job to help ex-convicts stay on the straight-and-narrow, but one Michigan probation officer is now accused of being a sexual predator.

Michigan Department of Corrections probation officer Mark Vernon Titus of Grosse Pointe is charged eight counts of criminal sexual conduct with a 35-year old woman from Detroit.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worth detailed the charges.

"His probationer, someone he was supervising -- we are alleging that he abused his capacity as a probation officer for the Michigan Department of Corrections by assaulting her sexually. And this took place over a period of months from approximately April 2008 up through and including August of 2008," Worthy said.

The 46-year-old Titus, who was with the department for 11 years, is on unpaid suspension. He was arraigned Thursday and will be back in Detroit's 36th District court on October 26th.

Worthy told reporters she does believe there are more victims who have been abused by this officer.

Worthy asks that those individuals to contact State Police.
