Ecology Center marks 40th Birthday: On Wednesday, Nov. 17, the Ecology Center is celebrating 40 years of progress toward a healthy Washtenaw County community and a sustainable future. Van Jones, a globally recognized, award-winning pioneer in human rights and the clean energy economy, and best-selling author of Green Collar Economy: How One Solution Can Solve Our Two Biggest Problems, is joining us to discuss green business and Michigan's economic future. The event begins at 6 p.m. with a reception and silent auction, with dinner and the program at 7 p.m. The venue is the Michigan League, 911 N. University, Ann Arbor.

MITEF, GLEQ, TiE Detroit start Savvy Entrepreneur Series: The Great Lakes Chapter of the MIT Enterprise Forum, the Great Lakes Entrepreneurs Quest and TiE Detroit have scheduled their 2010-11 Savvy Entrepreneur series. The event begins Nov. 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. with interactive Web and statewide networking locations in Ann Arbor, Southfield, Detroit, Midland and Houghton. The series provides early to mid-stage technology entrepreneurs with guidance on key topics that all startups must navigate to realize success. The initial session will provide networking followed by a panel discussion on building great teams, even for startups with limited resources. The guest keynote speaker and panelist is Josh Linkner, founder and chairman of ePrize LLC. Other panelists are Paul Glomski, president of Therapy Staff LLC, a health care staffing firm; Denise Demers Stein, president of Art of Leadership Advisors, a leadership consulting firm; and moderator Dennis Nash, vice president of global business development for Saphran Solutions, a business software developer.
