soldier us flag Mich. Soldier Killed In AfghanistanThe Defense Department says a soldier from eastern Michigan has died from wounds suffered in an attack in Afghanistan.

The military identified the soldier as 23-year-old Private First Class Shane M. Reifert of St. Clair County’s Cottrellville Township.

The Defense Department says he died Saturday in Kunar province of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with small arms fire.

He was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
