Michigan State Police are investigating a fatal accident that happened Monday night on I-696 near Greenfield in Oak Park.

Police say a vehicle headed eastbound on the freeway lost a wheel that went airborne over the median wall, and crashed into oncoming traffic on the westbound side of the freeway.

It hit a vehicle, killing one person.

And police in Westland are investigating a fatal accident that happened last night, on Merriman Road, north of Michigan Avenue.

A 73-year old man was hit by a motorcycle, as he crossed Merriman, near Grand Traverse.

The biker lost control, hit a pole, and was killed. The pedestrian was taken to a hospital for treatment.
