Encourage Reading For Fun

One of the biggest gaps in reading between kids at the 4th, 8th and 12th grade levels in the act of reading for fun.

The National Assessment of Educational Progress has shown that 44 percent of kids in 4th grade read almost every day for fun, while only 21 percent of those in 8th grade do the same. By 12th grade, the fun level has further dipped, as only 18 percent read for fun, and a third of 12th graders almost never read for fun.

Since reading for pleasure helps kids practice their reading skills, and maintain a love of learning, try to find fun books for kids, even if they are not of the highest literary merit.
