Michigan Celebrates Adoption Day

Many families are preparing for an additional place at their table this Thanksgiving. November 23rd is the 8th Annual Michigan Adoption Day. All around the state, 29 different counties will hold special adoption day events -- including open houses on the adoption process and parties for adoptive families.

Michigan Supreme Court Justice Mora Corrigan tells WWJ they have a specific goal in mind for Adoption Day.

"Our goal in having this is to dispel the myth that we don't have any children available for adoption in our state," Corrigan said.

Corrigan said that on Tuesday, 150 children will be adopted in proceedings held around the state.

Right now, about 3,500 children are in Michigan's  foster care system hoping to find a new home.
