Aspirin, Religion, The Most Expensive Book

Why are American soldiers so worried about their weight? According to the Army Times, soldiers are starving themselves--- taking diet pills and laxatives, even resorting to liposuction--- to meet the Army's weight standards, and to avoid losing their careers.

A similar study has found more than 30% of men in uniform do not meet height and weight standards.

24,000 soldiers were discharged between 1992 and 2007 for weight problems.

Nurses have a bone to pick with Dr. Oz.
Last month, the ``Dr. Oz Show'' featured women dressed as sexy nurses. They were included a segment about dancing to lose weight.

Dr. Mehmet Oz briefly danced with six women in high heels, retro nurses' caps and white dresses with red lingerie showing. The American Nurses Association calls it a ``sexist caricature'' of nursing. Demeaning. Insulting.
The ``Dr. Oz'' show has offered an apology to anyone offended. The statement says the doctor has the highest respect for nurses.

Researchers studying the health affects of cell phones, say they have found evidence that when pregnant women use those phones regularly, their children are more likely to have behavioral problems including obedience issues, and emotional issues.
They don't know the cause.
The study, done at UCLA, is published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health.

Aspirin is the wonder drug that may be more wonderful than we thought.
Scientists say according to a new study in the United Kingdom, taking a low dose of aspirin daily seems to significantly reduce the risk of many kinds of cancer.
Details in the journal Lancet.
Oxford University scientists say even though taking aspirin carries a risk of stomach bleeding, that risk is outweighed by its benefits.
And scientists say the evidence is strong enough to suggest people over 40 should take a small amount daily as protection.

Are married men NICER than single men?
A new Michigan State University study says yes.
Alexandra Burt says married men are nicer men.
She thinks it's because of two things.
#1 She says men who are more anti-social tend not to get married.
#2. She says men who DO get married show less aggression, there's less lying, and less physical abuse.
And she says lack or remorse isn't as big a problem with married men.
Details in the December Issue of the Archives of General Psychiatry.

Sotheby's is auctioning a rare copy of John James Audubon's ``Birds of America,'' billed as the world's most expensive book - a treasure that could sell for $9.5 million).
``Birds of America,'' will be on the block in London alongside a first edition of Shakespeare's plays expected to fetch at least ($1.6 million).
The books come from the estate of a rich baron,who died in 1955.

Another complete copy of ``Birds of America'' was sold by Christie's for $8.8 million in 2000, a record for a printed book at auction.
