Howell Woman Directs Police To Ex-Boyfriends Explosives

Some unexpected excitement in front of the Howell Library as the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad was called out to detonate a homemade explosive device in a parked car.

Police were called to Chestnut Street near Grand River Tuesday night by a woman who said her ex- boyfriend had been making homemade explosive devices at their home on McCarthy Street. Because they broke up, the woman packed up the materials, including items that she thought were actual bombs, and put them in her car. While she drove her Nissan Maxima to the police station, the woman and a friend decided that it would be better to park the car and call police.

The State Police Bomb Squad detonated one explosive device without any injuries or damage.

Police say the suspect is being held in the Livingston County Jail on unrelated charges. An investigation into his activities is underway.
