Kids Need More Than Team Sports To Stay Fit

Do kids get enough physical activity when playing and practicing sports? A new study from San Diego State University shows that kids playing organized sports do not get the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity even on days when they are practicing or playing a game for soccer, baseball or softball.

By attaching monitors to kids, the researchers found that kids spent a lot of time waiting their turn in drills, or watching coaches, with only about 45 minutes of exercise. Soccer players, boys, and younger children scored higher than other groups, but only 2 percent of the kids exercised for an hour per day.
