Arts And Idols

A Macomb County School District is taking a page from American Idol to raise money for local schools. The Third Annual Arts and Idols Scholarship Gala will raise money for the Utica Community Schools, and offer big prizes for the top contestants.

"We've raised over 31 thousand dollars so far. And every dime raised goes to the UCS Scholarship Fund" said Ron Tavernitt, Executive Director of the Utica Community Schools Foundation for Educational Excellence. He says the foundation is helping to make up for cuts in state and local funding.

"School districts in this state and all over the country are losing funding big time. So they're relying more on their foundations to help supplement things that they can't do any longer. And we're glad to be part of it."
