Area Freeways Get A Business Boost
Freeways are often the first and last impression visitors have of the metro Detroit area. As WWJ's Pat Sweeting reports, some area businesses are pitching in to keep them clean.
Five metro area companies have agreed to sponsor one mile sections of area highways, in an effort to keep them clean.
The 'Sponsor a Freeway Program', is operated by the Adopt-a-Highway Maintenance Corporation. Patricia Nelson president of the corporation, spoke with WWJ's Pat Sweeting, "They'll be cleaned once a month, 12 times a year."
Nelson says non-sponsored segments of roadway will not include county inmates for clean-up. "We are a private company, we hire our own work-force, we train them, bring them in and they go out and do the cleaning."
