Vadnais Becomes New Military Affairs Director

Maj. Gen. Gregory J. Vadnais has been named the new military and veterans affairs director under Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder.

According to the department's website, Vadnais was sworn in Saturday as adjutant general of the Michigan National Guard and the department director.

He retired in 2005 as the commander of the Indiana Army National Guard's 38th Infantry Division and was recalled from retirement by Snyder.

Vadnais enrolled in the Michigan Army National Guard in 1970 and served in a variety of assignments until his retirement. He holds a bachelor's degree in sociology from Central Michigan University and studied for a year at the Army War College.

He'll replace Maj. Gen. Thomas G. Cutler, who was appointed adjutant general by Gov. Jennifer Granholm in 2003.
