Westland Christmas Tree Recycling Begins

Now you can do something useful with that "real" Christmas tree instead of just putting it on the curb to be hauled away.

The city of Westland begins a Christmas tree recycling program Tuesday. It will run through January 17.

Residents can drop  off  trees at the city's Recycling Center, located at the rear of the Department of Public Services building at 37-137 Marquette. Trees will be accepted during regular business hours, 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Trees should be free of tinsel, lights and decorations. The trees will be chipped and recycled for use at Westland's Community Garden and other locations.

For residents unable to participate in the recycling program, Westland will continue to accept Christmas trees that are set out at curbsides, however, they will not be recycled.
