Dingell Announces $500k Stimulus Grant For Ann Arbor Firm

U.S. Rep. John D. Dingell this week announced that Ann Arbor-based OG Technologies Inc. received a $500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation.

This award will be used to develop an imaging based monitoring system for the piercing process used in the manufacturing of seamless steel tubes. The money for this grant was made available by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, better known as the federal stimulus.

"This is great news for OGT and for Ann Arbor," Dingell said. "OGT is a pioneer in image based inspection systems  for the steel industry. I applaud OGT for their work in Michigan and their great success in creating such useful,  innovative technology. The aim of the ARRA is to put America to work and to support the innovative efforts of high-tech companies such as OGT and this grant will help to do that."

OGT's Terry Liddy said that this grant represents a unique approach of multi-model sensor fusion with soft as well as hard sensors to controlling a highly stochastic and non-linear process.

The grant is also supported by the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center, Michigan Seamless Tube, and V&M Star.

OGT uses highly advanced manufacturing to produce precision instruments that inspect manufacturing parts to ensure accurate dimensional measurement and detect surface defects.
