DSO Musicians' Jan. 22 Concert To Be Webcast Live

DETROIT (WWJ) The musicians of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra will be playing for a potentially worldwide audience Saturday, Jan. 22 at 8:30 p.m., when its concert at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Grosse Pointe Woods (467 Fairford) will be broadcast live over the Internet.

The videocast will be hosted by Classical Music Broadcast at www.classicalmusicbroadcast.com under the auspices of an American Federation of Musicians internet agreement.

"The videocast over the Internet will enable classical music lovers all over the world, whose exposure to the music of the famed DSO may have been limited to the prized Paray, Dorati, and Jarvi recordings, to see and hear first-hand the musicians of the renowned orchestra," said Karl Pituch, DSO Principal Horn.

The program, conducted by Kenneth Kiesler, will feature DSO concertmaster Emmanuelle Boisvert playing Beethoven's Romances for Violin and Orchestra, No.1 in G major, op. 40 and No.2  in F major, op. 50.  Also on the program will be Brahms Academic Festival Overture and Saint-Saëns Symphony No.3 in C minor, op. 78, the Organ Symphony, with Craig Rifel at the organ.

The conductor, soloists, musicians, and stage crew will all be donating their services to support the musicians, who have been on strike the past 14 weeks.

Tickets, $25 for general admission, $35 for preferred seating, and $50 for premium seating, are available in advance at www.detroitsymphonymusicians.org or at the door pending availability.
