Galarraga Headed To Arizona

It looks as if the Armando Galarraga trade to Arizona could be done as soon as later today, MLB.com's Steve Gilbert writes .

The Diamondbacks would sent minor-league pitcher Kevin Eichhorn and another player to Detroit for Galarraga and the $2.3 million he's owed for 2011, if he makes the squad. That's the interesting part, Gilbert notes that since he was arbitration-eligible, the team could release him by March 15 and owe him 30 days' termination pay (less thatn $380,000) or 45 days termination pay if released by March 30 (less than $569,000).

Galarraga was 4-9 with a 4.49 ERA, with one of those four wins coming on the near-perfect complete game. He's expected to battle for a spot at the back of the Diamondbacks' rotation.

Eichhorn was a third-round pick in the 2008 draft. The right-hander pitched at three levels in 2010, going 5-6 with a 5.00 ERA in 15 starts, striking out 81 in 86 1/3 innings, while walking 18. The majority of his starts, 13, came at Missoula of the Rookie level Pioneer League.

UPDATE: The deal is done, with Ryan Robowski joining Eichhorn in heading to the Tigers.

Robowski, a left-hander, went 2-4 with a 5.17 ERA in 35 relief appearances at Class A Visalia. He did strike out 51 batters in 54 innings.
