Dearborn Museum Celebrates Black History Month
DEARBORN (WWJ) - The Arab American National Museum in Dearborn plans two programs to mark Black History Month related to the 50th anniversary of the Freedom Riders.
The museum says it's one of six sites nationwide to host a live audience to participate in a youth summit Wednesday on the 1961 rides that sought to end segregated facilities on interstate bus routes in the South.
The summit is scheduled for a noon webcast, which is presented by the Smithsonian Institution and features participants in the train and bus rides.
Students from several southeastern Michigan schools will gather for the summit after watching the documentary film ``Freedom Riders'' in their classrooms.
