Obama To Visit UP To Talk National Wireless Web

President Barack Obama plans a visit to Marquette Thursday to tout how local businesses have been able to grow through broadband access, with particular benefit in exporting goods to new markets around the world.

In his State of the Union Address, Obama called for a National Wireless Initiative to help businesses extend the next generation of wireless coverage to 98 percent of the population.  White House officials say the next-generation wireless network in Marquette is an effective demonstration of how Obama's proposal to open up airwaves will spark new innovation, put people back to work, grow the economy and help America, in the words of the speech, "win the future."

White House officials said more details of the visit will be released this week.
