DETROIT (WWJ) Are you finding yourself depressed and discouraged this winter? Many feel stuck inside, we’re less active, it’s dreary outside, and many gain weight so it is easy to get discouraged this time of year. But, there are things you can do to feel better.
WWJ Newsradio 950′s Beth Fisher reports the winter blahs aren’t that unusual.
“I think this year we’re getting a little bit more snow than we usually see and I think it’s frustrating. It’s week after week , it’s easy to get discouraged because we see that it’s snowing and how many times can you dig yourself out of your driveway? How many times can you shovel your walk before you get discouraged? You…think of it as being futile because it’s just going to snow again tomorrow,” states psychiatrist Dr. Gerald Sheiner, of Birmingham.
Sheiner says you can help yourself feel better by eating right, exercising, staying on a schedule , and getting enough sleep. And, it’ll probably go away when we get some steady sunshine.
Sheiner notes that you should contact your doctor if you can’t get out of bed or can’t sleep – that those are signs of a more serious problem.
