Police Investigate Monroe County Murder

ASH TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - An Ash Township man was found dead in his apartment, and now police are treating the case as a homicide.

At the Michigan State Police Monroe Post, Sergeant Scott Beard tells WWJ that family members called the victim several times Thursday. When their loved one, 51-year old Randy Pittman, didn't pick up the phone  they went inside the residence and found his body.

Sergeant Beard said that anytime someone can't be reached for a lenght of time and family members are concerned, police are happy to check it out.

"Certainly if they would have called we would have been have to go there and check... You know, that's a personal decision, but we would certainly always be willing to help," Beard said.

Meanwhile authorities are remaining tight-lipped about the murder weapon and what was found at the crime scene as the investigation continues.

No suspects have been named.
