Three reasons why Adrian Peterson’s comments calling the NFL players labor fight with the league modern day slavery, while ridiculous when taken at face value, contain an element of truth:

1. NFL players are the only athletes among the four major pro team’s sports who do not have guaranteed contracts.

2. The league has turned its back often when it comes to player health issues, especially regarding those from the past, who have a much shorter lifespan than the average man in this country.

3. Players don’t have unrestricted freedom to move from team to team. The NFL is essentially a monopoly, complete with anti-trust exemptions from the legislative branch of our government.
