Traffic Stop Leads To Major Theft Discovery

DETROIT (WWJ) - One man is arrested during a traffic stop in Detroit after police find more than 100,000 dollars of stolen merchandise in his truck.

WWJ's Stephanie Davis reports that police found a truck full of stolen stone and concrete cutters, generators, power washers, other power tools and landscaping equipment, after pulling a man over on a routine traffic stop.

"What this is showing is the workings of a criminal enterprise, where there is usually more people involved, there is a criminal ring out there were they are committing breaking and entering," says Sgt. Steve Blankenship with Michigan State Police.

The stolen items came from across the state of Michigan and as far as the 'thumb' area.

"Some of the most expensive items are stone cutters and concrete cutters, there were several located there, those are worth about 2-3 thousand dollars apiece. There are also generators, power washers, some of which are brand new, those are very expensive," says Blankenship.

Police also found stolen wire-tapping equipment and believe this is most likely part of a major criminal enterprise with other people involved.
