Bobb To Meet With Parents To Address Concerns With Restructuring

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit Public Schools Emergency Financial Manager Robert Bobb will be meeting with parents and students as he tries to defend his latest list of possible school closings.

Some of the schools will become charters, but if that doesn't happen, as many as 59 schools and buildings will close.

Bobb says he'll try to reason with families.

"It impacts their children and their children's education, and you have to be sensitive to that, and you can not dismiss parents and their issues and their concerns when you are closing an institution that is very dear to them," says Bobb.

"It's a difficult process because we say, close or charter? If we don't get the charter we close. As opposed to the process in the past, it's just like, "We're going to close your school" and then we are going to negotiate with you and determine whether the school actually closes or not," says Bobb.
