Local Hotels Filling Up For Tigers Opener

DETROIT (WWJ) - It's a "full count" for downtown hotels as the Detroit Tigers play their home opener Friday.

In downtown Detroit about two blocks from Comerica Park at the Hilton Garden Inn there are just a few rooms left for Friday and they're going fast.

That's according to Antoinette Allen who works at the hotel. She says it's a prime location - and lots of fun. "We have so much fun. There will be tailgating on Friday morning, we'll have our patio open for Tigers fans to come by and enjoy some of the festivities," says Allen. She adds that their restaurant bar and grill will also be open and just about everyone will be donning their Tigers gear.

And, the Tigers' home opener Friday at Comerica Park will be about more than just baseball. Festivities will include a military flyover showcasing A-10 aircraft and a flag-raising to honor the late Hall of Fame manager Sparky Anderson, who died last year. The lead singer of Creed, Scott Stapp, will lead the crowd in "God Bless America" during the 7th-inning stretch.

First pitch for the Tigers-Kansas City Royals game is 3:05pm, Friday afternoon. WWJ Newsradio 950 will be broadcasting live from Comerica Park all day.
