Dearborn Jury Says Pastor's Protest A Breach Of Peace

DEARBORN (WWJ) - The six member jury has decided that the actions of a Florida pastor's planned demonstration outside a Michigan mosque would constitute a breach of the peace.

Therefore the court has ruled that he will have to put up money, what is known as a ""Peace Bond" to ensure that there will be adequate protection while he makes his public statement and to be sure that he pays for any extra police and protection that may be needed for the planned protest.

Prosecutors argued that Terry Jones' past actions are evidence the protest outside the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn could cause violence, and the jury on Friday agreed.

Jones argued that he isn't responsible for what anyone else might do in response to his protest.

Now a judge will decide the amount of a so-called peace bond to pay for extra law enforcement.

Dearborn denied Jones a permit to protest outside the mosque and offered alternative sites. Jones has said he won't post bond and says he won't change the protest location.

A burning of the Quran in March at Jones' Gainesville, Fla., church inflamed anti-Western sentiment in Afghanistan.
