Mariners 7, Tigers 2

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Seattle came into Detroit and easily swept the three game series from the Tigers as the Mariners close out by winning  7-2 on Thursday.

As heard on 97.1 The Ticket the Mariners outscored the Tigers 24-6 over the three games, the first time Seattle has swept a Tigers series since July 2003.

Brad Penny (1-3) gave up four runs on nine hits and a walk for the Tigers. He struck out three.

Pineda (4-1) struck out the first four batters he faced, and although he allowed a couple runs in the second inning, the hard- throwing righty was overpowering at times.

Rookie Michael Pineda struck out nine in six sharp innings, and Miguel Olivo and Luis Rodriguez each homered to help the Mariners get the win.

Ichiro Suzuki added two hits, and Justin Smoak hit an RBI double in the fourth inning that put Seattle ahead to stay.
