Tree Falls On Van In Calhoun County, Killing 2

CONVIS TOWNSHIP (AP) – The stormy weather in Michigan takes a tragic turn in rural Calhoun County. A mother and daughter were killed when a tree toppled onto their minivan. A third family member was injured.

The accident occurred late Wednesday afternoon in Convis Township, about ten miles east of Battle Creek. The victims have been identified as a 46-year-old woman from Davison and her 11 year-old daughter. Another daughter, 13, is in serious condition at a Kalamazoo hospital. The names of the victims have not been released.

Authorities still aren’t sure what happened. Skies were cloudy but not threatening, at the time, and winds were light. It could be that the tree had been weakened by high winds and heavy thunderstorms in the area a day earlier.
