LAKE ORION (WWJ) – Police are investigating a fatal crash in Lake Orion involving a police vehicle and a man riding a bike.

Officials told WWJ Newsradio 950 the crash happened when the 38-year-old bike rider was attempting to cross North Park Boulevard and was hit by the patrol car.

Police got the call at around midnight Thursday.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The police officer wasn’t injured.

The victim’s name was not immediately released.

Lapeer Road was closed for several hours overnight, but has since reopened.

    this is tragic i don’t like bikers who don’t look both ways. as bikers we have to take extra precautions, don’t be a hurry slow down look both ways!

    And the charges against the cop are? Seems pedestrians have the right away. If this happened to Joe Q public, there would be charges.

      What pedestrian? Bikes have to follow traffic laws and rules, contrary to popular belief.

        yes they do but how can someone pass away if hit at 35 mph thats the speed limit right . o im sorry cops dont need to follow the law they can drive as fast as they want. and it was a construcktion zone so y wasent the cop more careful speeding was the prob person riden o and so people know his name is eric and he was a great person
