Web Resources For Math Challenges

The National Council for the Teaching of Mathematics has some great web resources available for kids, families and teachers.

The Council has developed the website figurethis.org, that present kids and their parents with a series of math challenges. These can range from questions about selling Beanie Babies, to issues involving baseball statistics, to how many Friday's the 13 are in a calendar year.

For teachers, the NCTM has developed Illuminations, which many parents might enjoy as well. It features innovative ways of teaching about math, including a lesson on how to teach equations using the game Battleship.

To play, kids can write the equation for a line, and any ship caught along that line is hit!
