Elk & Bear Hunting License Application Deadline Approaching

(DETROIT) - Hunters who want elk or bear licenses have just over a month to file an application.

The state Department of Natural Resources says hunters may apply to be in the drawing online or at any retail license agent. The deadline is the first of June.

The state plans to issue 155 elk licenses for this year, 90 for the August-September hunt and 65 for the December hunt.

Elk licenses go only to Michigan residents.

More than 11,000 bear hunting licenses are available for this hunting season.

If any bear licenses remain after the drawing, a hunter may get one leftover license on a first-come, first-served basis in July.
