Motorists Rescue Woman From Burning Car

TITTABAWASSEE TOWNSHIP (AP)- Two quick-acting Michigan State University students pulled an unresponsive woman from a burning car following a crash in Saginaw County, authorities said.

Jessica Dore, 28, of Bay City, may have experienced blood sugar problems before her car rear-ended a pickup truck on Tuesday evening at a four-way stop,  police in Tittabawassee Township, about 95 miles northwest of Detroit, told The Saginaw News and WSGW-AM.

Police say she is pregnant.

Twenty-two-year-old engineering students Ryan Hunt of Troy and Adam Rainbolt of Ingham County's Meridian Township also were at the intersection and removed Dore from the car, police said. Fire crews arrived and put out the blaze.

Hunt said Dore was disoriented in the moments after the wreck.

"She was not unresponsive, but she wasn't capable of moving herself," Hunt said. "I saw her arm move and I said, 'Are you OK?' and she made a noise."

"She was in terrible shock and physically she did not seem like she would have gotten herself out of the car if Adam or myself hadn't helped her."

The car was traveling about 40 mph before the crash, police said. Dore and the driver of the pickup truck were treated for minor injuries at a Saginaw hospital.

Rainbolt said the car was engulfed by flames about two minutes after he and Hunt carried Dore about 100 feet from the wreckage.

"There's no doubt they saved her life," said township police Officer Brian J. Berg.
