Matt Dery: The Arrival Of Tom Gores
Tom Gores is here and he is ready to get to work. The Platinum Equity CEO is now the new owner of the Detroit Pistons and today he held his first press conference since acquiring the team. Gores made sure to include Karen and Ethan Davidson in his presentation and admitted that he does not fly solo, that he is a guy who has a "team" and values their input. Gores is backing Joe Dumars and says he will push Joe D and challenge him and his staff. Gores was asked about his coach and Tom referred to him as "Coach Kooster", saying that he owes it to Kuester to meet with him face to face before making any decisions.
The new owner stressed that things will be moving quickly and pushed core values and helping the economy in this area as important items in his presentation. Gores adding "Our first order of business here is to get back to winning". Following the news conference, Dumars admitted that his hands were tied the last few years as the process of the sale was going on. Joe D says he was told to just "sit tight" and really not do any business. He would not comment on Kuester's future.
The head coach was not at the press conference today, but Rodney
Stuckey, Ben Gordon, and Charlie Villenueva were in attendance.
