Matt Dery’s Daily Update 6-21-11

The NBA Draft is coming up on Thursday and this morning was a big day for the Pistons, who are working out some very good big men that may be there for them at number 8 and even in the 2nd round. Bismack Biyombo, Tristan Thompson, Markieff Morris, Oakland U’s Keith Benson and Jordan Williams all are at the practice facility. Meantime, Bill Laimbeer will interview for the Pistons coaching job tomorrow. Mike Woodson met with Joe D Monday and tells the Free Press he thought it went well.

Yahoo Sports reports that the Houston Rockets, who own the 14th pick and 23rd picks in the 1st round, would like to move up in the draft and make a deal. The report says maybe Detroit would bite and send the 8th pick to Houston for 14 and 23.

Tigers are now 1-3 on their road trip and are trying to turn it around tonight in L.A. against the Dodgers who shut them out in the opener. Max Scherzer goes for his 10th win against Chad Billingsley. Jim Leyland elects to give Miguel Cabrera the night off, Victor Martinez will play first and Alex Avila will be behind the plate.
